Where you at?
I can’t believe it, my semester is finally gonna start. Kinda late some would say. But it’s all good! I am continually awespired by God and how he orders our steps. I am very much looking forward to getting started with Campus Crusade and being a part of the leadership and planning team. This particular blog I’m gonna share a little about how real Proverbs 16:9 has been to me as of late.
In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.
NIV Proverbs 16:9
Hmm, where to begin…
How often do we go through life mindlessly. Come August or December you’re picking classes simply because they are part of your major. Have you ever thought “how is God going to use this class to equip me better for service to Him?” Or what about in your workplace, you go to work day after day, do you ever wonder why God has placed you at that particular job? Is it just because that was the only employer who returned your phone call during the application process?
One translation says that God “orders” our steps. Often times we think that God’s plan for us is in some distant or future event or a particular time in life. But it is in fact right now. According to our text Prov 16:9, each step is ordered. God doesn’t plan only the big events in our life. He’s in control of it all. Everything we do is part of His plan.
We need to live with the realization that every step we take is given to us by the Lord. He has a great plan for us, Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
I know for me, the hardest part is not knowing what the “bigger picture” is. But thats not what God has asked to worry about it. He wants us to focus on what He’s set on our plate right now. Don’t worry about desert or the main course, enjoy the appetizer, because thats what he is serving you right now.
Let me close with a prayer: Heavenly father, you said that you plan each step we take. Lord let us truely follow that plan. Let us not waver in our steps. Help us to realize that each step is from you. Let us maximize each event, large or small, to your Glory alone. We love you and praise you for your power! We thank you for your wisdom and that we can rely on it to lead us. All these things we pray only for your glory, Amen.
