Grid Server 1.2 Media Temple Style
Well it’s been a few days now since the upgraded version of the Grid 1.2 has been in place at Media Temple. Some things I have noticed so far:
- Much faster Account Center (WAY Faster!)
- Urchin stats is still quite slow
- Increased speed in mySQL connections
- One thing I have noticed in this regard though is that a page using MYSQL on first connection from a browser is a bit slower then requests from pages after the initial request. Not sure if that makes sense.
- No timeouts in mySQL connections
- Faster response times
- Download speeds are much faster via HTTP
- More organized Database Administration area in Account Center
Overall I am thrilled with the improvements in the grid system! One thing I’d like to see in the future is separate passwords for each database. In a collaborative environment it’s not always beneficial to let everyone have one password to access all the databases within the account.

Okay not super thrilled just yet. My sites have gone down, I mean completely off line a few times now. I’m on the Grid. We’ll see if this gets fixed in the coming days/weeks.

Much better performance this week out of the grid. I did receive one 500 error. MYSQL Connections are still a big slow. Overall, connection times are much better than last week. Apparently they were getting a DOS attack.
